Agrobiodiversidade no contexto de hortas escolares: agricultura urbana, conservação e potencial pedagógico

Biologia.Agrobiodiversidade é um componente da biodiversidade que através de estreita relação com o ser humano é utilizada, manejada, cultivada e domesticada nos mais variados sistemas agrícolas, e é diretamente relacionada à nossa segurança alimentar e a uma ampla ganha de necessidades humanas. Hortas escolares podem se caracterizar como espaços de uso e conservação da agrobiodiversidade, ao mesmo tempo em que há um potencial para serem espaços de atividades educativas. O objetivo desse trabalho foi analisar a agrobiodiversidade existente nas hortas escolares de escolas da Rede Municipal de Ensino de Florianópolis/SC, com a finalidade de conhecer as espécies alimentícias convencionais e não convencionais. Para isso, foi realizado um inventário florístico das espécies cultivadas através do método do caminhamento e uma amostragem fitossociológica do estrato herbáceo, com parcelas fixas, das espécies espontâneas que ocorrem nas hortas escolares de 12 Unidades Educativas de Rede Municipal de Ensino de Florianópolis/SC. Foram inventariadas 101 espécies cultivadas, cujas famílias de maior riqueza foram Lamiaceae (13), Myrtaceae (7) e Solanaceae (7). 87% das espécies cultivadas apresentaram potencial alimentício. Foram inventariadas 92 espécies espontâneas cujas famílias de maior riqueza foram Asteraceae (16), Poaceae (13), Cyperaceae (7). 28% das espécies espontâneas (26) foram categorizadas como Plantas Alimentícias Não Convencionais (PANC). Percebese que as hortas escolares são espaços onde a agrobiodiversidade está composta por diversas espécies vegetais com uso alimentício predominante, porém existe uma riqueza de espécies que ainda não foram exploradas quanto ao seu potencial, como é o caso das PANC. A interação entre o ensino superior e o ensino básico pode possibilitar troca de saberes e a multiplicação de conhecimento sobre temas como as PANC, que se encontram relegadas, mas que são importantes nas discussões tanto sobre conservação de agrobiodiversidade como de segurança alimentar e potencial de uso

RasBhari: optimizing spaced seeds for database searching, read mapping and alignment-free sequence comparison

Many algorithms for sequence analysis rely on word matching or word statistics. Often, these approaches can be improved if binary patterns representing match and don't-care positions are used as a filter, such that only those positions of words are considered that correspond to the match positions of the patterns. The performance of these approaches, however, depends on the underlying patterns. Herein, we show that the overlap complexity of a pattern set that was introduced by Ilie and Ilie is closely related to the variance of the number of matches between two evolutionarily related sequences with respect to this pattern set. We propose a modified hill-climbing algorithm to optimize pattern sets for database searching, read mapping and alignment-free sequence comparison of nucleic-acid sequences; our implementation of this algorithm is called rasbhari. Depending on the application at hand, rasbhari can either minimize the overlap complexity of pattern sets, maximize their sensitivity in database searching or minimize the variance of the number of pattern-based matches in alignment-free sequence comparison. We show that, for database searching, rasbhari generates pattern sets with slightly higher sensitivity than existing approaches. In our Spaced Words approach to alignment-free sequence comparison, pattern sets calculated with rasbhari led to more accurate estimates of phylogenetic distances than the randomly generated pattern sets that we previously used. Finally, we used rasbhari to generate patterns for short read classification with CLARK-S. Here too, the sensitivity of the results could be improved, compared to the default patterns of the program. Order Picking in Narrow-Aisle Warehouses: A Fast Approach to Minimize Waiting Times

Mail order companies like Zalando or Amazon reported a significant increase regarding the number of incoming customer orders in recent years. Customers are served from a central distribution center (warehouse) where requested items of the orders have to be retrieved (picked) from their storage locations. The picking process is performed by human operators (order pickers) who are employed on a large scale in order to enable a fast processing of the orders. However, due to limited space, aisles are often very narrow in warehouses, and order pickers cannot pass or overtake each other. Thus, an order picker may have to wait until another picker has performed his/her operations. The arising waiting times may significantly increase the processing times of the orders, implying that a large number of pickers does not guarantee for small processing times. Therefore, in this paper, the impact of several problem parameters on the amount of waiting time is investigated first and situations are identified where the consideration of waiting times is inevitable for an efficient organization of the picking process. In the second part of the paper, a solution approach, namely a truncated branch-and-bound algorithm, is proposed which aims for the minimization of the waiting times. By means of extensive numerical experiments, it is demonstrated that this approach provides high-quality solutions within a very small amount of computing time

Entwicklung einer freien Software zur Verwaltung von digitalen Comics auf Basis von Web Technologien

Mit dem Aufkommen von E-Books sind auch Comics im digitalen Zeitalter angekommen. Digitale Comicsammlungen bestehen meistens aus Dateien unterschiedlicher, teils proprietärer Dateiformate. Da Comics in proprietären Formaten nur in den Anwendungen der Hersteller geöffnet werden können, gestaltet sich die gemeinsame Verwaltung aller Comics einer Sammlung schwierig. Da die Verwaltung der Comics bei diesen Herstellern zentralisiert auf deren Servern erfolgt, ist das Lesen von Comics bei diesen über deren Apps standortunabhängig möglich. Diesen Vorteil bieten Comics in nicht-proprietären Formaten nicht. Für den maximalen Komfort muss man sich also für einen einzelnen Anbieter entscheiden und eine Fragmentierung der eigenen Comicsammlung über mehrere Anbieter hinweg vermeiden. Diese Probleme soll dieses Projekt lösen und dazu mit ComicLib eine freie Software zur zentralen Verwaltung und Bereitstellung digitaler Comicsammlungen schaffen. Da ein Öffnen der proprietären Dateien nicht möglich ist, soll die Beschaffung von Informationen zu Comics, Serien und Verlagen über den Zugriff auf die ComicVine API1 von Gamespot2 erfolgen. Bei Comics in nicht-proprietären Dateiformaten soll das Lesen direkt in der Software möglich sein, bei den proprietären Formaten soll die Datei stattdessen nur zum Download bereitgestellt werden. Eine eigene Programmierschnittstelle soll die Erweiterung von ComicLib um mobile Apps ermöglichen. Die Implementation als Webanwendung soll eine Nutzung der Comicverwaltung auf Computern, Tablets und Smartphones ermöglichen

Entwicklung einer Android-App zur mobilen Nutzung einer zentralisierten Comicsammlung

Neben den großen Anbietern digitaler Comics mit elektronischem Kopierschutz (DRM) haben sich auch Anbieter für DRM-freie Comics etabliert. Als Open Source-Alternative zu den Plattformen Ersterer wurde im Rahmen des Praxisprojekts die Software ComicLib als Web-App zur Verwaltung digitaler Comicsammlungen geschaffen. Diese ermöglicht die gemeinsame Verwaltung DRM-geschützter sowie -freier Comics. Letz-tere sind außerdem im Webbrowser lesbar. Die im Rahmen dieser Arbeit entstandene And-roid-App soll eine Open Source-Alternative zu den mobilen Apps der Plattformen der gro-ßen Anbieter sein und ComicLib um eine mobile App zur Offline-Nutzung der Comics erwei-tern. Der erste Prototyp wird im Nachgang des Projekts weiter getestet und verbessert, be-vor die erste stabile Version veröffentlicht wird.Alongside the major vendors of digital comics with digital copy protection (DRM), providers of DRM-free comics have also established themselves. As an open source alter-native to the platforms of the former, the software ComicLib was created as a web app for managing digital comic collections as part of the Praxisprojekt. It enables the combined administration of DRM-protected and DRM-free comics. The latter can also be read in the web browser. The Android app developed in the process of this project is intended to be an open source alternative to the mobile apps of the major providers' platforms and to extend ComicLib with a mobile app for offline use of the comics. The first prototype will undergo further testing and improvement in the aftermath of the project before the first stable version is released

Reflexos da perfeição: alguns elementos do gênero espelhos de príncipes na Idade Moderna

Este ensaio procura apresentar alguns aspectos do gênero literário espelhos de príncipes (specula principum), com a intenção de mostrar como este gênero literário, por muitos hoje desconhecido, formou desde o final da Idade Média uma importante tradição de influência no pensamento político europeu. São encontrados resquícios desse gênero em um grande número de autores da antiguidade, no entanto somente nos últimos séculos da Idade Média é que se desenvolveu em maior grau. Nesse sentido, torna-se importante destacar que autores como Maquiavel e Erasmo de Rotterdam, cada um a seu modo, propuseram algumas mudanças na concepção tradicional do gênero, que era contemplado por reflexões de orientação moral e política restritas e fechadas ao modelo cristão de virtudes
